Promo codes

Promo codes are customizable discounts that help attract new players, reward loyalty, and run marketing campaigns directly in Thril.

Promo codes are a powerful way to attract new players, reward loyal customers, and run seasonal or flash campaigns. With Thril’s promo code tool, you can set up custom discounts that apply automatically during checkout, giving you complete control over your marketing incentives.

🧭 Where to Manage Promo Codes

To get started, go to Settings → Promo codes in your venue dashboard.

This view shows all your current codes, their statuses, usage numbers, and active periods. From here, click New promo code to launch a new campaign.

✍️ Step 1: Basic Details

Begin by entering the following:

  • Name: Internal name for your reference (shown in reports).
  • Code: The code customers will enter at checkout (e.g., SUMMER25). It’s auto-formatted to uppercase and must be unique.
  • Active period: Set the start and end dates. The code becomes available starting at midnight on the start date.
  • Additional details: Optional notes visible only to you and your staff.

Once filled in, click Next step.

⚙️ Step 2: Configuration

Here, you can define how the code behaves:

  • Usage limit type:
    • Per customer: Each customer can use the code a limited number of times.
    • Global: The code has a total usage limit across all users.
  • Maximum usages: Leave empty for unlimited use, or set a cap (e.g., "first 50 uses").

Continue by clicking Next step.

🧩 Step 3: Add Benefits

Now you can define what the code actually does. Each promo code can have one or more benefits. Click Add benefit and pick what the benefit discounts:

  • Reservations: Reservation discount or Reservation custom pricing
  • Events and courses: Event discount or Course discount
  • Services: Service discount

The list groups the benefits by what they discount.

Reservation discount

  • Benefit name: Clearly describe what the customer gets (e.g., “10% discount”).
  • Discount type:
    • Percentage (e.g., 15% off)
    • Fixed amount (e.g., 5€ off)
  • Discount value: Enter the percentage or fixed value.
  • Reservation restrictions (optional): Target specific sports, resources, days, time slots, or durations.

Event discount and course discount

An event discount covers events, series and tournaments. A course discount covers course enrollments.

  • Benefit name: Clearly describe what the customer gets.
  • Discount type:
    • Percentage (e.g., 20% off)
    • Amount off (e.g., 5€ off)
    • Fixed price: the price the customer pays (e.g., 15€). An event or course that already costs this much or less gets no discount.
  • Which events does this discount apply to?:
    • All events: every event and tournament at the venue.
    • Events that match rules: one or more rules, such as a kind of event, a sport, a category, a price range, days, times or a date range. An event only has to match one rule.
    • Only events I pick: named events, series and tournaments. Picking a series covers the occurrences it adds later.
  • Exclusions (optional): events that never get this discount, even when a rule matches them.

A course discount picks courses the same way, with Which courses does this discount apply to?. You can pick a whole course or single groups of it.

Open Matching events (or Matching courses) to see the upcoming items with their list price, the discount and what the customer pays. You can exclude an item from its row.

When an event or course matches more than one benefit of the same code, a benefit that picks the item by name wins over a benefit that matches it by rule. Otherwise the customer gets the biggest discount.

Service discount

A service discount covers service bookings.

  • Benefit name: Clearly describe what the customer gets, e.g. "Spring campaign".
  • Discount type: Percentage, Amount off or Fixed price, the same as for events and courses.
  • Restrictions (optional): limit the discount to chosen services, duration ranges, days of week, time slots or a date range. With no restrictions the discount covers every service booking.

The customer enters the code when they pay for the booking on the web or in the app. A cashier can also enter it in POS. A code cannot be entered when staff mark a booking as paid.

A matching promo code replaces the customer's membership discount on the booking, even if the membership discount is bigger. In POS the membership discount comes off first, and the code takes its discount from what is left.

You can add multiple benefits if needed. When ready, click Create promo code.

📊 Monitoring and Editing Codes

Once created, you can:

  • See each code’s usage stats.
  • Edit or delete codes at any time.
  • View which benefits and users are associated with a promo.

To manage a promo, click on it from the overview list. You’ll find tabs for Details, Benefits, Events, Courses or Events and courses, and Usages. The events and courses tab is there when the code has an event or course benefit.

The events and courses tab lists the venue's upcoming events and courses with the list price, the discount, and what the customer pays. The Reason column names the benefit that gives the discount, or tells you why an item gets none.

The promo codes of an event, series, tournament or course are no longer set in the event or course settings. The item's details show the active codes that work there under Promo codes that work here.

💡 Tips

  • Use short, memorable codes.
  • Combine with email campaigns for better reach.
  • Limit codes to weekends, off-peak hours, or specific groups to optimize pricing.

Promo codes are a versatile tool to drive bookings and delight your customers without disrupting your standard pricing logic.
